Dr. Richard "Doc" Derstine Youth Award Contest

The Dr. Richard "Doc" Derstine Youth Award was established to honor outstanding youth who have demonstrated a commitment to their communities and is open to all youth groups, such as 4-H clubs, scout troops, school and church groups, and civic service club youth organizations from elementary school through grade 12.

Eligibility

To be eligible, all projects must involve youth in planning and implementation and must have a major impact on one or more townships of the second class in Bucks County (governed by a board of supervisors). Eligible projects must have been undertaken during the contest year, July 31 to June 30.

Eligible projects include such activities as community beautification, cleanup and fix-up of buildings and litter cleanup projects; direct services to residents of the community, such as the elderly, children, the underprivileged, the disabled and hospitalized patients; fund-raising projects for worthy causes within a township; soil and water conservation, environmental protection and recycling; voter registration; safety; recreation; and blood donation and first aid.

Guidelines

All program entries must be nominated and submitted by their local township chairperson. The BCATO Executive Board will select a winner, who will win a $500 cash award and be recognized at the organization’s Annual Fall Meeting.

The application's guidelines and form are available in the following link:

The deadline for completed applications is September 2, 2020 and two hard copies must be submitted via mail to Angela Benner at the following address:

Bucks County Association of Township Officials
P.O. Box 856
Doylestown, PA 18901

Special Note: The application guidelines and forms are the "PSATS Youth Awards Contest" applications guidelines and forms. BCATO purposely constructed its contest to be similar to encourage more participation. As a result, one hard copy will be retained by BCATO for its contest and the other hard copy will be mailed by BCATO to PSATS for entry into its contest - the winner of that contest receives $500 and statewide recognition.

For questions about the BCATO contest, please contact the Exectutive Director at or at executivedirector@bcato.org.
